WOOD & WRIGGLY TIN

At Ark Shepherd Huts we source locally grown timber for the vast majority of our huts' external features. Everything is sawn to order from freshly felled or seasoned timber at a sawmill just a few miles from us.

EXTERIOR

Depending on the size of your hut we use either 5" or 6" oak for the axles, and oak for the window and 2" and 3" oak panels for the window and door surrounds. If your hut is to be clad in wood we generally use red cedar, both for its stability and its resistance to insect damage. Left untreated, it mellows to a lovely grey with time. Alternatively, you may prefer us to stain it a particular colour. The choice is yours.

Another option for external cladding is to use 'wriggly tin' which, like our roof arcs can be supplied in a range of traditional colours with a long lasting and durable plastisol coating.

Window and door joinery is all done by hand in hardwood (usually sapele), then painted in the colour of your choice (we do have our favorites which we're more than happy to recommend).

INTERIOR

Our huts are generally supplied with a natural pine tongue and groove ceiling, painted bead and butt panels on the walls and a beautiful and hard wearing engineered oak floor.

If you have a particular preference for alternative materials, or would like to fit out and decorate your hut yourself, we are more than happy to discuss options.
